What is KML to KMZ?
KML to KMZ is a compression tool. KML files are text-based (XML) and can get very large, very quickly. KMZ is a ZIP archive that creates a smaller file.
More importantly, KMZs can contain images. If your KML points to local photos (e.g., C:/MyPhotos/pic.jpg), Google Earth won't show them on another computer. This tool bundles those photos inside the KMZ so they work everywhere.
When Should You Use This Tool?
- •You need to email a large map file that exceeds attachment limits.
- •Your KML has Red X icons because image links are broken.
- •You are sharing a map with photos to a client.
- •You want to backup your map data in a single file.
How to Use KML to KMZ
- Upload your .kml file.
- (Optional) Upload any images or icons used in the KML.
- The tool matches images to the KML references.
